With prestigious buyers such as Studio HBA, Perkins & Will, Damac, Nakheel and Meydan, and big names in manufacturing like Atlas Concorde, Kartell, Rubelli and Zucchetti, Milan’s latest industry event, Design Mission Italia, connected the finest brands from the IMEA region with leading Italian suppliers across the home decor and design sectors. It’s aim to “bring Italian design to the world” was certainly achieved, with the unique three-day B2B networking and trade show bringing together 1,600 buyers and 780 suppliers, and generating 13,498 face-to-face meetings.
Organised by IDE Consulting Services, the 2016 edition of Design Mission Italia boosted partnerships between Italian brands and leading designers, developers and real estate businesses from the Middle East, Africa and India. Innovative products from sectors like lighting, furniture, window treatments, floor coverings, marble, stone and home accessories were showcased, initiating insightful factory tours from the suppliers based in the Italian capital, lasting relationships and lucrative contracts.
During his opening speech, Ravi Kumar Chandran, director of IDE Consulting Services, said: “Design Mission Italia provides a unique result-oriented platform that facilitates crucial face-to-face meetings, strategic networking activities and effective information exchange for key stakeholders of the real estate industry, including project owners, developers, architects and interior designers, connecting them to the Italian suppliers directly.”
The IMEA region was targeted to uphold relations and boost Italy’s export trade, which has firm connections with business in these countries. India’s real estate sector is booming, worth an estimated US $190 billion; the infrastructure spending of Africa will exceed by US $180 billion by 2025 at a CAGR of 10%; in the Middle East, construction projects worth US $77 billion are needed to cater to the Expo 2020 in Dubai and the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Italian suppliers have developed key export links with these regions, and now is a crucial time to maintain the relationships with the decision makers involved in over 200 residential, commercial and hospitality projects across the IMEA.
Justin Wells, director of Studio HBA based in Tecom, Dubai, hosted a talk on Italian design influences in the Middle East, and showcased an exciting project the interior design practice is working on, the Hard Rock Hotel in Dubai Marina. Commenting on Design Mission Italia, he said: “What I have found unique about the event is the artisan approach of the suppliers. History, care, passion and genuine love for the product is evident. This sentiment is infectious and will most certainly result in creative collaborations between our company and the suppliers for our future projects.”
