New Knowledge Forum initiative launches in Dubai

A new series of design talks has launched to meet a growing demand by UAE design professionals for industry news, insights and innovations coming to the regional market.

The Knowledge Forum initiative was established by four leading Dubai-based companies, Mirage, Herman Miller, Artemide and Zip Water, who hosted the first event on September 6 in Herman Miller’s conference area in Marina Plaza, Dubai Marina, to a select crowd of architects and interior designers. Those attending came from home-grown boutique practices such as Pallavi Dean Interiors and S2 INTERIORS, as well as international firms such as LW Design and Perkins + Will.

“We recognised a dearth in the design industry for engaging ways of learning about new advances in various areas of manufacturing, so we approached three other companies that – like us – continually bring new, innovative products to the market here in the Middle East,” says Tanya Pearson, General Manager of Mirage Middle East, based in Dubai Design District (d3).

“We are constantly researching and developing new technologies, manufacturing methods and environmentally-friendly processes that improve the aesthetics, durability, quality and eco-credentials of our products. As an Italian company quality is of the utmost importance, and we want to share and pass on the fruits of our labour to architects and designers in the Middle East who are looking to work with that level of quality product.  We feel that it’s important that designers here know of such advances that can enhance the way our homes, offices, hotels, shops, et cetera, can be designed and used. Launching the Knowledge Forum initiative gives us the platform to do this.”

Christina Morgan, Director of Interior Design at Pallavi Dean Interiors, says: “The Knowledge Forum is a great platform to keep us designers updated and refreshed with design thinking and regional suppliers.”

Commenting during the event on Instagram, Sneha Divias, Design Director at S2 INTERIORS, said the Knowledge Forum was an “informative evening session with three of my favourite brands for tiles, furniture and lighting. Looking forward to the next one.”

As well as advances in porcelain stoneware, the design talks also gave insight across a diverse range of commercial products. Herman Miller, specialists in commercial furniture, provided fresh information into the ergonomics of furniture design that respect social boundaries in the workplace and enhance a proactive work ethic. Italian lighting manufacturers Artemide highlighted the science behind lighting design and its relationship with colour, to create different ambiances in commercial design, focusing on welcome areas. Lastly, Zip Water revealed the new cost-effective water filtration systems now available, which can be installed in homes and offices across the Middle East, which has a high ROI for end users.

The next design talk hosted by Mirage Middle East will be held in Mirage Project Point Dubai, a new meeting and consultancy space for design professionals opening in d3 for Dubai Design Week.
