DesignFix was started by Eleanor Joslin and Nausheen Noor, two design aficionados and writers living in the UAE who missed having a go-to source online for all the things they wanted to know more about – regional designers, emerging talent, local exhibitions, new furniture stores, the latest home trends, and cool new restaurants and hotels with design worth talking about. So they launched their own creative outlet, DesignFix, an online magazine giving you a daily dose of what they (and you!) love – no more waiting a month for your favourite magazines to hit the shelves!
Eleanor is an avid collector of handmade Turkish textiles, is preoccupied with the quality of grouting in the UAE (ergo the lack of), and can often be found working (enjoying coffee in an Acapulco chair) at Craft Cafe in d3. Her favourite designers are Khalid Shafar and India Mahdavi, her best buy was a Fornasetti lamp at Milan’s Salone del Mobile, she likes visiting Hai d3 to sit on Latifa Saeed’s Braided sofa, and she admires classics by Louis Poulsen and Hans Wegner.
Nausheen’s favourite designers and architects are the classic ones – Charles Eames, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright. A lover of all things with history, her most prized vintage store find is a Limoges china set from the 1920s. If you visit her home in the afternoon, she’ll bake you fresh scones and serve tea in the aforementioned set. Chronically afflicted with wanderlust, she’s an avid adventurer who’s swum with whale sharks and mingled with mountain gorillas. But, she’s perhaps most content when on her yoga mat or her blue velvet couch in her mid-century modern living room.
